COMPETITION
The DNA International Islamic Calligraphy Competition (IICC) aims to both preserve the classical Islamic arts, particularly calligraphy, and introduce the arts to the general public by increasing awareness and interest not only in youth but also in young children. The competition is officially opened for submissions from 20th April 2021.
Islamic Verses
This year's theme is "Local & World Heritage".
Children may draw/paint heritage sites at a local or at a national level in their own countries. They can also draw/paint local/world heritage sites of other countries, however, sites from their own countries are preferred.
Categories
Category-I: 23 years and above
Category-II: 18 - 22 years
Category-III: 13 - 17 years
Category-IV: 8 - 12 years
Rules & Guidelines
- IICC is open for adults from 18 and above and young children from 8 - 17 years.
- All works submitted are not limited to any specific calligraphy approach and can be made in any of the traditional Arabic Calligraphy styles.
- Participants may submit a maximum of 2 entries with each entry having a separate online submission form and submission fee.
- Size of Artwork: Work should be a minimum of A3 size (12” x 17”) and a maximum of 20”x 30”.
- Medium: The work may be drawn or painted on a good quality paper, wasli, or canvas. Materials like the following but not limited to pencil, pen, charcoal, crayon, pastel, watercolor, gouache, acrylics, oils, poster colors can be used. Digital techniques are not acceptable. Only 2D artworks are accepted.
- Any submission that violates the concept of any phrase or includes any spelling errors will automatically be disqualified.
- The entries will be judged by a panel of senior calligraphy artists. The submissions will be judged on the basis of originality, creativity, technique, visual impact.
- The entries employing colors that can be dusted or wiped off or that could dirty other entries when dealt with together must be fixed.
- The artwork submitted should be new, not displayed earlier, and should not be a copy of the previous works.
- Any artwork received with incomplete or without the submission form will not be accepted.
- The winners and selected participants will be informed to submit their artworks a month prior to the exhibition dates. The participants will be responsible to courier their artworks on time before the deadline announced at a later date.
- DNA will bear the framing and exhibition cost of the selected artworks for categories 1 and 2.
- All submitted artworks will become the property of Discovering New Artists, which may use, exhibit, and sell them for appropriate purposes within its own activities. Kindly note that DNA is a social enterprise, thus a percentage of all the proceeds will be used for supporting the marginalized students.
- All the artworks should be submitted before the given deadline. DNA will not be responsible if some artworks do not reach them.

Level - I Prize (23 Years & Above)

- The top 30% of artworks of total submissions will be selected for the National Exhibition arranged by Discovering New Artists.
- All the selected winners for the exhibition will receive a Certificate of Excellence. All other participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Level - II Prize (18 - 22 Years)
- 1st Prize: USD $100 worth of Cash Prize
- Certificate of Excellence
- The top 30% of artworks of total submissions will be selected for the National Exhibition arranged by Discovering New Artists.
- All the selected winners for the exhibition will receive a Certificate of Excellence. All other participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Level - III Prize (13 - 17 Years)
- 1st Prize: USD $100 worth of Cash Prize
- Certificate of Excellence
- The top 30% of artworks of total submissions will be selected for the Virtual Exhibition arranged by Discovering New Artists.
- All the selected winners for the exhibition will receive a Certificate of Excellence. All other participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Level - IV Prize (8 - 12 Years)
- 1st Prize: USD $100 worth of Cash Prize
- Certificate of Excellence
- The top 30% of artworks of total submissions will be selected for the Virtual Exhibition arranged by Discovering New Artists.
- All the selected winners for the exhibition will receive a Certificate of Excellence. All other participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
