Discovering New Artists launched Art for Change 2018 – 5th International Child Art Competition and Exhibition on 10th September 2018. This year’s competition is launched in collaboration with Accountability Lab, The Print Factory and Naqsh-o-Nigar Photography.
This competition was established in 2014 to build a bridge between the privileged and underprivileged communities of Pakistan and support marginalized children in their education through arts. Although national initially, last year DNA took it to an international level since it has become well known among teachers and children in many different countries due to its innovative and beneficial model for the children from all economic backgrounds.
Art for Change puts special emphasis not only on arts education but also on the fact that we should be socially responsible citizens of our country. It operates on the following model to bring a positive change in the society;
“A small registration fee (token) from a private/elite school student enables the team of DNA to buy art materials and equip marginalized children to participate on the same platform for free of cost – The drawing/paintings sold in art exhibitions across Pakistan and internationally help us sponsor the education of marginalized children and promote arts education among children from all economic backgrounds.”
Discovering New Artists believes in promoting creativity and channeling it for generating positive messages and hopeful ideas. Since 2014, 15,500 students have drawn/painted on different themes and supported 7,750 students from marginalized communities to be part of the competition and exhibitions.
However, the journey carries on. With support from our partners, this year we want the children from Pakistan to explore and express their ideas on how to counter the climate change we are facing globally. DNA provides the children an opportunity to draw something to convince through their art the ways to conserve water and find solutions to combat climate change and save the earth. Thus, the themes for Art for Change – 5th International Child Art Competition & Exhibition are “Water Conservation” and “Save the Earth”.
All the schools across the World are invited to submit their students’ artwork along with artwork submission fee where applicable by 19th November 2018.
